Bourbon & Beyond: Navigating the Festival

by | Sep 19, 2026

Bourbon & Beyond can feel overwhelming for visitors, especially first-timers. This guide covers what you need to know to get around and have a great time.

Bourbon & Beyond: Tickets and Entrance Information

Bourbon & Beyond is an all-ages event. Every attendee, no matter what age, must purchase a full-price ticket. You need a valid ticket or pass at the Kentucky Expo Center gate each day. Re-entry policies vary by ticket type. All attendees pass through metal detectors at every entrance, so arriving early, especially on the busy first day, typically means shorter security lines.

The 2026 app includes the lineup schedule and live updates, including weather alerts. You can download it before attending from the Apple Store or Google Play. Download it before you arrive and enable notifications for weather alerts.

How to Dress for Bourbon & Beyond

Closed-toe, comfortable and supportive shoes (think sneakers) are essential because Bourbon & Beyond requires a lot of walking. Uneven ground and wet grass also create hazards. Break in (or test) your shoes before the festival. Also wear comfortable, clothes

A clear bag will help you move through security faster. Remember to pack these items:

  • Sunscreen (reapply according to directions)
  • Wide-brim hat or cap
  • Portable phone charger
  • Light rain gear if rain is forecasted.
  • High-fidelity earplugs to protect hearing during loud sets
  • Electrolyte packets or tablets
  • Medications, as needed
  • Water bottle.

Outside food and beverages are prohibited, though sealed and refillable water bottles are allowed. Free water refill stations operated by Louisville Water Company are located throughout the festival grounds. You can find them on the app map.

The festival does not provide on-site storage for prohibited items, so leave them at your accommodation.

Bourbon & Beyond: Pacing

Multi-day festivals like Bourbon & Beyond are a marathon, not a sprint.

Focusing on one or two acts each day and keeping the rest of the schedule flexible cuts down on unnecessary walking and prevents overcommitting yourself. Taking seated breaks regularly and eating properly will help keep you energized.

A solid daily structure will help keep you going throughout multiple days:

  • Eat a substantial breakfast or lunch before entry.
  • Identify water station locations and use them regularly.
  • Find shade areas and medical points on the app so you know where to go when you need them.
  • Reduce activity during the hottest part of the day to conserve energy for evening sets.
  • Take a quiet seated break before the headliner so you reach the main stage feeling fresh.
  • Prioritize recovery between festival days. Avoid extra sightseeing to stay energized.

Hydrate consistently with electrolyte-containing beverages to help prevent heat-related illness. Add electrolyte packets to your water supply throughout the day, not only when you feel thirsty.

Returning to Lodging After the Event

Post-headliner rideshare can be extremely stressful. Expect 30–60 minute waits and surge pricing of 5 to 15 times normal.

Cell service usually degrades when tens of thousands of attendees open apps at once. Keeping the rideshare app open before signal drops and downloading offline maps in advance reduces the impact of network congestion.

Use these practical strategies for a smoother exit:

  • Identify the designated rideshare pickup zone on the festival app.
  • Walk five to ten minutes away from the festival to a quieter area to lower both wait times and surge pricing.
  • Stay 30 to 60 minutes after the headliner ends so the crowd can thin out.
  • Pre-arrange fixed-rate transportation or coordinate with a designated driver before the event.
  • Consider camping or booking a nearby hotel to simplify transportation needs.

Bourbon and Beyond: Chair Policy

Lawn chairs are permitted in non-standing-only areas within the General Admission section at Mainstages and require advance purchase of a Lawn Chair Pass. Buy the Lawn Chair Pass in advance through the official ticketing platform because it is not sold at the gate.

Only single collapsible lawn chairs are allowed. Large chairs with rockers, footrests, or side tables are prohibited.

Music at Bourbon & Beyond

The festival often schedules emerging artists in early-afternoon and secondary-stage slots. Checking them out can help you find your next favorite musical act. These slots often deliver the most exciting discoveries at Bourbon & Beyond.

OnesToWatch highlights the musicians playing secondary stages that seem most likely to become headliners in the future. The platform has covered artists including Chappell Roan, Billie Eilish, and Olivia Rodrigo before their mainstream breakthroughs, proving its ability to spot talent before it peaks.
